Web Analytics - The Holy Grail

Web Analytics - The Holy Grail

Web is like an universe - humongous, complex, unfathomable, omnipresent and just like universe expanding each second. However, unlike universe it changes every moment and becomes increasingly unpredictable.

At the core of web, is its data, gigabytes of it and complex. New Data churning from web applications, smart devices, social platforms, wearable products, living gadgets, the list is endless. The key question however is what do we do with this huge data. How much sense it makes to the human race? About 75 -80% of this data is unstructured which simply means that it has no tangible value. However, when this unstructured data gets converted to a structured data, magic happens. We derive insights which wouldn't have been possible with a small amount of data. These interesting inferences are only drawn when we churn BIG DATA.

Now what are these insights which are so revered. They hold different meaning to different people depending on the objective of their web presence. For an e-commerce website their key insight perhaps would be to get new customers & retain the existing ones. Or perhaps what's selling and what now. For a healthcare guy, the objective might be to spread awareness and therefore he might be interested in the type of visitors coming to his web platform. The list is endless...

Web Analytics plays a very important role in discovery of these insights and valuable information since web would soon be touching our personal lives (we are already in amidst of data revolution) in a big way by the onset of IoT and thinking gadgets becoming a part of our daily lives. Web Analytics is increasingly becoming the path to discover the valuable treasure which is lying on the bed of the ocean. Let's keep exploring and doing our data chintan to derive best benefits from the tsunami of data hurled upon us.
